Frequently Asked Questions

What does Jenny Alison Casting do?

Jenny Alison Casting books TV show audiences, as well as background actors for scripted film and television.

What is a background actor?

A background actor is any non-speaking actor in a film or television show. They are sometimes referred to as "extras." We have featured background performers, as well as those used in large crowd scenes.

Do I need experience to be a background actor?

Absolutely not. We love first-timers! However, our more experienced background actors do have an advantage over those that have not worked on a set.

How do I submit for a casting call?

Please follow my facebook page for all of the most recent casting calls. It is SO important to follow the submission instructions. Even if you are already in my database, please follow the casting call guidelines. My biggest pet peeve is having to ask you a question that was already asked in the casting call.

What is expected of me on set as a background actor?

Professionalism is KEY. I know we can all get star struck at times, but it is so important to remain professional on set. There are so many moving parts and as a background actor, you must always be aware of your surroundings. Following the instructions from the ADs (assistant directors) is so important.

Why do you send so many email updates?

I believe your time is as important as the lead actor on set. I want you to know exactly what is going on before you arrive. Communication is so important and I want to make sure there's always an open line of communication with my actors.

Why don't you send the call times/location until the day before a booking?

In TV and Film, you will learn quickly that we almost never have this info until the afternoon or evening prior to your booking. Each day's call time is based on the previous day's schedule. If we run late on a Monday, the following day's schedule will be pushed off. This is why it is so important to regularly check your email the day before a booking.

Why do you ask for us to have completely open availability on the day we are booked?

Film and television productions are governed by various union regulations regarding working hours and turnaround time. This means we can never be sure of the start time for the next day of filming until the previous day of filming is finished. If filming wraps later than expected, they must start later the next day.

How will I be paid for my work?

Payment is always handled by the production company handling each individual project. Jenny Alison Casting does not handle payment, however, if you are having any issues with payment, please email me at booking@jennyalisoncasting.com and I will try my best to get the situation handled in a timely manner. It is very important to keep all documentation/vouchers until you are paid. I recommend taking a photo of your voucher at wrap time.

What kind of identification do I need to bring so that I can get paid?

Background work is like any other job in that you must present ID to prove you are legally permitted to work in the United States. You can present an unexpired driver’s license and Social Security card OR an unexpired U.S. Passport. For a complete list and more information, click here.
